Animals, when presented with the opportunity, will forage for the herbs, roots and plant oils they need to both self medicate and to keep themselves healthy. This forms the basis of the practice of 'animal aromatics' and zoopharmacognosy.
It is an interesting fact that science turns to the animal kingdom when finding out how plants can be used for development into drugs for human use.
Through having available useful, nutritious and therapeutic herbal powders, oils and essences, we can help our pets help themselves. The 'aromatics' are a selection of essential oils and macerates that animals will choose to either inhale or ingest. Many behavioural problems will be helped through the use of the oils. In addition, we are able offer them a variety of herbs and grasses which an animal will often choose to help with physical problems.
Essential oils, herbal powders and macerates are able to help with a wide range of problems including behaviour (fear, anxiety, grief, hormonal disturbances, hyperactivity, etc); arthritis, digestive problems, injury, allergies, tumours, respiratory, bacterial infections, organ problems, laminitis, IBS, and more.
Before purchasing products, it is beneficial to consult a qualified practitioner in Zoopharmacognosy first. This consultation will identify the powders or oils your animal needs, through their own selection. The therapist will also advise and guide you on how to administer the oils and powders. As some oils shouldn't be used with medication, it is essential you gain correct and relevant advice.
An animal will select for themselves what they need and will most certainly reject something unsuitable. It is important therefore, in the use of animal aromatics, not to add anything to their food.
Please note, zoopharmacognosy and animal aromatics are NOT a substitute for veterinary care.
If your animal becomes ill or shows signs that concern you, please contact your vet first.
